OBX5: Everything We Know

Warning: The following article includes extreme spoilers for Outer Banks Season 4

Recently, Outer Banks concluded its fourth season, its most wild, crazy, and shocking entry yet. It received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences, had the largest budget out of any season so far in the series, and included some truly memorable sequences.

But it is over, and it ended at quite a cliffhanger, leaving Season 5 to be almost a certainty. But what is known about it? Here you will find everything we know and everything you need to know about Outer Banks Season 5.

Is it confirmed?

Short answer, yes. Slightly before the release of Season 4 Part 2, Outer Banks creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke released a statement saying that season 5 was happening, and what’s more, it will conclude the show. Additionally, the creators stated that a five-season plan was what they started with all along, and that they had worked out an ending that felt natural and respectful to the characters and the fans.

When will it come out?

We have no confirmed release date for Outer Banks Season 5. However, we do have an idea. In the creator’s letter to the fans, they stated that as the fourth season had been competed and released successfully, they would now be turning to the fifth season.

The season is still in the developmental stage, however, and has not begun production or filming yet. But, we do have an estimate . Season 4, which was “the longest and hardest to produce” according to the creators, released eighteen months after season 3. So, season five would probably be something along those lines.

If it is extremely rushed through the process, it might come out in late 2025. If you ask us, however, that case is extremely unlikely. Our educated guess supposes that season 5 will release in mid-2026, which does fit in with the release schedule that we have seen so far.

What will the plot be?

This one, we have a fairly certain idea of. The treasure hunt that was started in Season 4 for the Blue Crown will almost certainly be the focus of Season 5. Going directly off of the finale of Season 4, the show will be about the Pogues’ continuing attempts to gain the Blue Crown, which was stolen from them by Chandler Groff in the closing minutes of the finale.

The Moroccan mercenaries the Lupine Corsairs will also almost certainly have a large part to play, though they will have to do it without their lead assassin, who was shot dead by Pope in the season finale. They will almost certainly be after Groff and the Blue Crown, contesting the Pogues for the prize.

Additionally, the storyline with Rafe remains to be resolved. Has he truly changed? Is he only in it for a quick buck? Or is he planning to take the Crown for himself? This will also be a large point in the season.

And, to cap it off, revenge. The Pogues will be going after Groff not for the crown, not for the riches, but for the revenge. Groff was the one who murdered JJ, one of the core members of their gang, in the season finale before running away with their treasure. As seen in the very last scene of Season 4, the Pogues are not letting him get away with it. As Kiara said in the firelight of the last few seconds of the finale, they want revenge.

Cast

Of course, most of the main gang will be returning for the fifth season. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, and Carlacia Grant are all returning. Additionally, Drew Starkey will be back as Rafe, Fiona Palomo will be back as Sofia, and Cullen Mass will be back as Shoupe, rounding out the cast of supporting characters. Also, J. Anthony Crane will almost certainly be back as Chandler Groff, our main adversary, and Pollyanna Macintosh will be back as the leader of the Lupine Corsairs.

Sadly, Rudy Stokes, who acts JJ, will not be returning after his character’s shocking death. He stated this in his heartfelt Instagram post to the creators of the show, the cast & crew, and the fans.
