2025 Box Office Predictions: Biggest Movies (Jan-April)

2024 was, unfortunately, a painfully mediocre year for the box office. For every huge box-office success like "Deadpool and Wolverine", we seemed to get two massive box office flops like "The Fall Guy" or "Furiosa" (as good as those movies may have been). In total, 2024 movies in the U.S. racked up $8.56 billion at the box office, a decline from 2023.
However, in 2025, things honestly seem to be looking up. There is a slew of original films, a slew of sequels, and a slew of returning massive franchises. There are opportunities for billion-dollar films, and unfortunately also opportunities for massive flops like we saw last year. Let's get into Secret Agent Films' definitive box office predictions for the biggest movies of 2025.
Note: Keep in mind that as a general rule, movies need to make double their budget to be considered a success. Also, for this list, we are limiting ourselves to what we think will be the biggest movies of the year. Stay tuned for a possible Part 2, in which we detail some of the smaller movies!

Dog Man - January 31
Dog Man, the second theatrical movie based on Dav Pilkey's literary exploits (The first being "Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie"), releases on January 31st. The animation looks clean, and it includes a cast of comedy superstars, like Lil Rel Howery and Pete Davidson. I see it doing solidly, if not making a massive splash. Its only real competition is the horror romance movie "Companion", which is an original R-rated film. While those can do well (Looking at you, "Longlegs"), they often pale in comparison to animated kids' movies based on existing IPs. Our only real thing to go on here is the box office results for "Captain Underpants", which made a total of $125.5 million worldwide. I see it doing a little better than that, leading the box office for a couple of weeks, and being a moderate success for Universal.
Dog Man Prediction: $180-220 million worldwide

Captain America: Brave New World- February 14
Unfortunately for Disney, we are past the days in which Marvel movies automatically are box office successes. I, however, believe that "Brave New World" has a genuine chance to be a modest-to large success, especially with the new details that have recently come to light. According to multiple sources, the movie has a budget of $180 million, which is the smallest MCU budget since Shang-Chi. The movie only needs to make roughly $350 million to break even, which I think it will do rather easily. But how much will it make in total? There are a couple of things going for it and a couple of things going against it. Firstly, it is the first Marvel movie since last July, so people aren't "superhero fatigued". Secondly, it's a recognizable name, and Captain America movies have pulled in solid box office so far. I think it will do better than the likes of "The Marvels" and "Eternals" ($205 million and $402 million respectively) but not as good as the likes of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" ($845 million).
Captain America: Brave New World Prediction - $650-700 million

Mickey 17 - March 7
These are usually incredibly hard to predict. Original movies can epically flop ("Argylle"), become the highest-grossing movie of all time ("Avatar"), or anything in between. "Mickey 17", however, has a unique set of circumstances. It is surrounded on both sides by movies with little to no hype, and it is directed by the same man who directed the streaming hit and Best Picture winner "Parasite". It should have a relatively comfortable time taking over the box office. The question, however, if an R-rated movie with this budget ($150 million) can be a success in today's economy. I think that this movie will pull in a solid amount of viewers, but fail to make its $300 million dollar target. As good as it looks, I unfortunately believe that this movie will fail to turn a profit.
Mickey 17 Prediction: $150-210 million

Snow White - March 21
Snow White is an interesting one to predict. At the surface, it's another live-action Disney remake, and those simply just print money - "The Lion King" made $1.7 billion, "Beauty and the Beast" made 1.2 billion, and "Aladdin" made $1.0 billion. But looking slightly further, there are other factors at play here. Part of the reason the three movies I just stated were so successful was the generational appeal. Children in the 90s would go to see the original versions of these movies, and now, they are grown up and have their own children, which they bring to the live-action remakes. However, that factor just isn't there for Snow White, which came out in 1937. Also, it doesn't help that this movie is knee-deep in controversy, whether it be the key story changes or Rachel Zegler's controversial comments during the press tour. It remains to be seen whether or not all press is bad press, but we know for sure this movie isn't going to totally flop, because movies like this never do. But I won't call it a smashing success.
Snow White Prediction: $400-450 million

A Minecraft Movie - April 4
This movie is going to be memed to death. We've gotten two trailers, and they've both been memed to death. But one thing this movie will also be is successful. Minecraft is a phenomenon. It is the second-highest grossing game of all time, second to only every Tetris game ever released. And people are going to show up in droves. People may hate on the trailer, but kids do not care about the mediocre VFX or the bad characters - they simply care that they are getting a Minecraft movie. So kids will show up in droves, and so will their parents. And so will teens, and so will young adults. And this movie doesn't have any real children's movie competition until the next month. So, no matter how good or bad this movie is, it's going to make a ton of money. And this might be a stretch, but we think this will be the first movie of the year to join the Billion Dollar Club.
A Minecraft Movie Prediction: 1-1.1 billion
